Guest Post 3- How to Make Healthy Food for Your Baby in 5 Minutes

There are so many concerns to bear in mind when an infant comes into our home, and feeding them properly is but one of them. You want your baby to grow and be healthy and of course nutrition is one of the most important factors, so you need to approach the subject with plenty of information and understanding. As your little one starts to eat solid food, you should do your best to prepare as much of it as you can from scratch because you can’t ever know with certainty what goes into store-bought baby food.

The best thing here is that healthy baby food is actually quite easy to make, your child will enjoy it and you will know for sure what they’re eating. In case you’re not quite sure where to start in this field, here are some pointers to help you make great baby food in no time.

Go For Fresh Produce

You can never go wrong when it comes to feeding your little one fresh organic fruits and veggies, seeing that it’s nutrients they need most and they abound in fresh produce. You will have to experiment a little in your choice of fruits and veggies to find what your baby likes the most, so we suggest first making small batches to test them out and work from there. Bear in mind that you can mix and match fruits and vegetables any way you think would taste good, but remember that it’s your baby that’s supposed to eat it, not you.

When it comes to your choice of produce, the sky is the limit, though there are some go-to classics that you should try out – try potatoes and sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots, peas, squash, zucchini, and even spinach and broccoli are game. Seeing that your baby still isn’t able to eat completely fresh veggies, you will need to boil or bake them, depending on what you prefer. Boiling is always a good way to go because it leaves all the nutrients inside the super healthy meal for your little one intact, but baked veggies are a bit more flavorful, so mix and do both to get best results.

When it comes to “sweet food” aka fruit that your child can try, there are plenty of soft fruits you can choose from that don’t require any kind of cooking. Fruit like bananas, cantaloupes, apricots, blueberries, papaya, peaches, avocados and oranges can be served straight up, all you need to do is puree them thoroughly before you feed them to your baby. You can always combine fruits and vegetables to incorporate the best of both worlds, just make sure your little one loves eating it.

Try with Whole Grains

One of the foods that parents often forget about when it comes to baby food are whole grains, which bear many benefits for your child and you. While baby rice is often used in different versions of baby food, you can expand your horizons much further, and give some of the whole grains a try. Oats, quinoa and even millet are a good place to start, just make sure your baby isn’t allergic to gluten, which is quite present in whole grains. You can use grains as thickeners in fruit purees and you can also put some in soups, to give the food more texture, though in taste whole grains are quite neutral, so your baby won’t fuss about them.

Cooking baby food only takes a bit of practice and getting to know your baby’s taste buds. You will learn in time and expand the array of products you can use, plus you’ll be sure that what your little one is eating is 100% healthy, which is by far the most important thing. – Theresa Brawner
